The Vattenfall Group is one of the largest generators of electricity and producers of heat in Europe. Its consolidated sales in 2010 amounted to €13.04 billion. Electricity, heat and gas represent the main products supplied by Vattenfall.
Vattenfall operates along the complete value chain: Generation, distribution and sales. In the gas industry, Vattenfall is active in the sales area especially. In addition, Vattenfall has an energy trading section and lignite mining operations. Since October 2008, Vattenfall Europe AG has been a partner in the Berlin Climate Alliance.
Vattenfall's Climate Strategy
Global climate change with its impacts on mankind and nature represents one of the greatest challenges of our time. International climate research has proven: A rapid reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) is the only way to halt climate change. Vattenfall is responding to this challenge and taking its responsibility for the future seriously. In this respect, Vattenfall's climate strategy will play a key role in the decades ahead. It has the clear objective of producing CO2-neutral electricity and heat. In comparison to 1990, Vattenfall has already reduced its emissions by a third and it aims to continue on this path. The company expects that by 2030 approximately it will have achieved two-thirds of its target. The plan is to then have its production completely climate-neutral by 2050. Across all of its operations Vattenfall is reducing the impacts on the environment and investing in new production methods, such as the separating out and storage of carbon dioxide(CCS), and in renewable energies (such as bioenergy, wave energy and wind power), as well as in developing nuclear energy and improving energy efficiency.
